Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Jarrly ("we", "us", "our") operates the website jarrly.com. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our website or use our tools, including the Carbon Calculator (which supports both the UK/EU EEMRIO model via EXIOBASE and the USA USEEIO model), Green-Gap Assistant, Carbon-Aware Code Auditor, and EcoHost Checker.
2. What data we collect
Data you provide
When you use the Carbon Calculator (EEMRIO or USEEIO), you upload Excel files containing final demand data. Uploaded files are automatically deleted from our server as soon as the analysis completes. Analysis result files are available for download and are automatically deleted within 24 hours. We do not store, share, or retain your uploaded data beyond this period.
Green-Gap Assistant — File uploads
When you upload CSV or Excel files to the Green-Gap Scope 3 Emissions Estimator, your files are processed entirely within your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your files are never sent to our servers or any third party. No upload data leaves your device at any point. Once you close or refresh the page, the file data is discarded from browser memory.
Green-Gap Assistant — Certification checklist
Your progress on the Micro-Certification checklist is saved in your browser's local storage so it persists between visits. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.
EcoHost Checker
The EcoHost Checker queries The Green Web Foundation's public API
(api.thegreenwebfoundation.org) to determine whether
a domain's hosting provider uses renewable energy. Only the domain
name you enter is sent to this service — no personal data is
shared. When you run a check, we log the domain checked, the
result (green/not green), the hosting provider name, and your
approximate location (country and city) — see
Usage logging below.
Carbon-Aware Code Auditor
The Carbon-Aware Code Auditor processes all page audits entirely within your browser. Estimated metrics are calculated client-side. When you run an audit, we log the URL audited, the energy rating, and your approximate location (country and city) — see Usage logging below.
The Carbon-Aware Scheduling feature fetches live carbon intensity
data from the UK National Grid ESO Carbon Intensity API
(api.carbonintensity.org.uk). When this data is
requested, your IP address is visible to that third-party service.
No personal data is sent beyond what is included in a standard
web request. See the Carbon Intensity API documentation for details.
Data collected automatically
If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics (GA4) to collect anonymised usage data, including:
- Pages visited and time spent on site
- Approximate geographic location (country/city level)
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- Referring website
This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally. Google Analytics does not collect names, email addresses, or any personal information.
Usage logging
When you use any of our tools, we log non-personal usage data to help us understand how the tools are being used and to display aggregate statistics. Your IP address is used server-side to derive an approximate location (country and city) via a third-party geolocation service (ip-api.com) but your IP address itself is never stored. This lookup does not require cookies.
The data logged for each tool is:
- Carbon Calculator (EEMRIO / USEEIO): Date/time, model used, number of columns analysed, country, and city.
- Green-Gap Assistant: Date/time, industry sector, number of employees, input values (electricity, gas, fleet fuel, procurement spend), calculated scope 1/2/3 and total emissions, country, and city.
- EcoHost Checker: Date/time, domain checked, green status, hosting provider name, country, and city.
- Carbon-Aware Code Auditor: Date/time, URL audited, energy rating, page weight, number of requests, CO₂ estimate, country, and city.
None of this data contains personal information. We use it to understand where our tools are being used and to improve them.
3. Cookies
We use a cookie consent banner on your first visit. You can choose to accept or decline cookies.
Essential storage
We store your cookie preference in your browser's local storage
(jarrly-cookies) so you are not asked again on
return visits. This is not a cookie and contains no personal data.
Analytics cookies (optional)
If you click "Accept", Google Analytics sets cookies to measure site usage. These cookies are:
_ga— Distinguishes unique visitors (expires after 2 years)_ga_*— Maintains session state (expires after 2 years)
If you click "Decline", no analytics cookies are set and no usage data is collected. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.
4. How we use your data
We use analytics data solely to:
- Understand which pages and tools are most used
- Improve the website and our tools
- Monitor site performance
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Data retention
- Uploaded files: Deleted automatically from the server as soon as the analysis completes.
- Analysis results: Available for download and automatically deleted within 24 hours.
- Job metadata: Temporary processing files (progress logs, status files) are automatically deleted within 24 hours.
- Usage logs: Non-personal usage data from all tools (date, tool inputs, results, country, and city) is retained indefinitely for aggregate statistics. No IP addresses are stored.
- Analytics data: Retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months, then automatically deleted.
- Green-Gap file uploads: Never sent to our servers. Processed in your browser and discarded when you close or refresh the page.
- Green-Gap certification progress: Stored in your browser's local storage until you clear it. Never transmitted to us.
- EcoHost Checker data: Domain lookups are performed via The Green Web Foundation API. Non-personal usage data (domain, green status, provider) is logged server-side — see Usage logging above.
- Carbon Auditor data: Audit results are generated in your browser. Non-personal usage data (URL, rating, page metrics) is logged server-side — see Usage logging above.
- ESG Report Generator: Your sustainability report (PDF) is generated entirely in your browser — no data is uploaded to our servers. Non-personal usage data (company name, industry, emissions inputs, and results) is logged server-side for aggregate statistics — see Usage logging above. If you include a green hosting check, The Green Web Foundation API is queried (see Third-party services).
6. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Analytics (GA4) — Website analytics, operated by Google LLC. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- ip-api.com — IP geolocation lookup used to determine country and city when an analysis is run. Your IP address is sent to this service but is not stored by us. See ip-api.com Privacy.
- The Green Web Foundation API — Used by the EcoHost Checker to verify whether a domain's hosting provider uses renewable energy. Only the domain name entered is sent to this service. See Green Web Foundation Privacy Policy.
- National Grid ESO Carbon Intensity API — Used by the Carbon-Aware Code Auditor to fetch live and forecast carbon intensity data for the UK electricity grid. Your IP address is visible to this service as part of standard web requests. No personal data is sent. See Carbon Intensity API documentation.
- SheetJS (CDN) — The Green-Gap Assistant loads the SheetJS library from a CDN (
cdn.sheetjs.com) to parse uploaded spreadsheet files in your browser. Your IP address is visible to this CDN as part of standard web requests.
